Here is a link to the training page for the self-coached Sudbury Team Chiropractic.

This paddle pool, where they train in the off-season, is of particular interest because the one-of-a-kind design allows paddlers to sit lower in the water in the training rigs, to better simulate being in a dragon boat.

The other impressive thing with this team is that the average age is 40+ on the team, but they continue to kick butt AND improve their game.

2005 Toronto Taste Volunteer Event a Success! Sun, 03 July 2005 20:38 Go to previous messageGo to next message
On Sunday June 12 2005, the MOFOs and some of our friends became a part of the hardworking volunteer team for the 2005 Toronto Taste Event. The event was a fundraising benefit event for the Second Harvest food bank.

Thanks to the efforts of the MOFOs & friends team and the work of all who participated, the total funds raised are expected to exceed $500,000! In other words, these efforts have helped raise enough funds for Second Harvest to deliver food for approximately 1.5 million meals. The MOFOs are proud to have helped make a difference to those in need in our community!

Some information about the Second Harvest:

Quote:

Second Harvest was founded in Toronto in 1985 as a way to address the growing problem of hunger in Toronto, with the vision that nobody in our community need ever go hungry.

The Second Harvest is a volunteer driven organization that collects and delivers unused fresh food from the city's restaurants and small grocery stores to shelters across the city. Over the years, Second Harvest has grown to provide fresh and frozen foods for roughly 12,000 meals every day.

Each morning six refrigerated trucks leave the Downsview warehouse and head to the four corners of the city, picking up high-quality, perishable foods that would otherwise be wasted. Donors include grocery stores, food manufacturers and distributors, hotels and caterers. Second Harvest drivers pick up this fresh food and transport it within hours to the front lines of hunger - to community centres, shelters, breakfast programs and drop-in centres. These social service agencies offer the Second Harvest food to children in need, seniors on fixed incomes, women fleeing domestic abuse, homeless people, psychiatric patients and thousands of other who have fallen on hard times.

MOFOs help power the Youth Spirit Challenge [TIDBRF 2005] Fri, 19 August 2005 13:12 Go to previous messageGo to next message
In conjunction with the Toronto Chinese Business Association (TCBA) and the Toronto International Dragon Boat Festival (TIDBRF), the MOFOs were able to contribute back to the community doing something they love.

For the weeks leading up the TIDBRF, the MOFOs and other like-minded paddlers from other teams participated in the Youth Spirit Challenge (YSC). The YSC is a City of Toronto initiative aimed at accessible to everyone, regardless of what their special needs may be. The YSC is an event that is unique to the TIDBRF, introducing kids and teenagers with special needs to the sport of dragon boat racing.

The MOFO paddlers formed part of the enthusiastic and happy volunteer group (steerspeople, drummers and paddlers) that powered 6 YSC boats for the practices and the big YSC race at Centre Island on the weekend of June 25/26, all the while singing, clapping, and helping the kids enjoy their experience on the water.

We are very happy to have been involved in this fun and rewarding experience, and look forward to future opportunities to contribute back to the community.

Special thanks to Blake Hara and Susan Lewis for running this exceptional program.

Second Harvest Food Bank needs part-time paid truck drivers Wed, 12 October 2005 23:42 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Hi guys,

Just thought I'd post this here in case anyone is interested. I would totally do this if I didn't already have 2 jobs :). I started volunteering with Second Harvest after going through a looooong list of other volunteer positions, and this was definitly the best one I found. Once you see these shelters they deliver to and meet the ppl there, you'll never look at things the same way. Here's more info....

Hello again,

I hope you had a wonderful summer. Here at Second Harvest, things are getting busier. Now Thanksgiving is over, we are starting to plan the Turkey Drive in December.

Meanwhile, we are in urgent need of two part-time drivers for our trucks. These are paid positions. The information is below. Please contact us if you or someone you know is interested in one of these positions.

SECOND HARVEST
1450 Lodestar, Unit 18
(nr. Allen Road and Sheppard)
Toronto, Ontario

Job vacancies for G and/or D-Z licensed drivers

At Second Harvest, a not-for-profit organization that runs Toronto’s largest fresh food recovery program, our vision is that no one need ever go hungry in the communities we serve. Every day, we collect surplus, nutritious perishable and prepared food from a wide range of donors, including grocery stores, manufacturers, hotels, and caterers and deliver it to over 200 social service programs that assist hungry men, women and children in the Greater Toronto Area.

We are looking for 2 part-time drivers to each work 3 to 4 days per week, Monday through Sunday. A D-Z license is preferred, but a G license is acceptable. Drivers are responsible for picking-up the food and delivering it to the various agencies, so must be physically fit and able to climb in and out of the truck and lift up to 50 lbs on a regular basis throughout the day. All work is performed in the GTA during regular daytime hours only. We have 19’ and 26’ straight trucks. Pay starts at $15 per hour for G-licensed drivers and $16 per hour for D-Z licensed drivers.

If you are community-service oriented, and are interested in joining us, please fax your resume and driver’s abstract to 416-408-2598, attention Elaine Henley, so that we can contact you about an interview.

MOFOs contribute to Operation Christmas Child 2005! Thu, 17 November 2005 17:34 Go to previous messageGo to next message
The MOFOs are proud to participate in this year's Operation Christmas Child campaign, donating toys, toiletries, school supplies, books, clothing and more to share our love with children living in countries that have been ravaged by war, famine, extreme poverty, or natural disaster.

We're happy to have been able to donate almost twenty carefully gift wrapped shoeboxes packed with goodies this year. Here are some action shots:

About Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child provides a practical way for Canadians to share our love with children living in countries that have been ravaged by war, famine, extreme poverty, or natural disaster. In 1992, Franklin Graham, International President of Samaritan's Purse, adopted Operation Christmas Child. Since then, more than 35 million shoe boxes have been delivered to hurting children in over 100 countries.

Each precious and carefully-packed shoe box gift sent overseas is a reminder that in the midst of all the pain, suffering,
and violence, someone still cares. It is more than a box of toys; it is a personal gift of hope and love.

MOFOs spread holiday cheer for Sick Kids Foundation! [2006] Mon, 20 November 2006 10:39 Go to previous messageGo to next message
Over the past weekend, a group of stalwart MOFOs and friends braved the crowds and cold weather to help volunteer at Toronto's Santa Claus Parade, in support of the Sick Kids Foundation.

Our group of volunteers worked the parade route, talking to kids of all ages to energize spectators with the prospect of seeing the big man in red himself - all the while selling toques, dvds, stickers and glowing necklaces to raise money for the excellent work being done at the world-famous Sick Kids Hospital.

Despite the cold weather, the hope and happiness from the kids warmed our hearts, and our volunteers raised a lot of money to support the cause. Thanks for coming out and helping to spread the holiday cheer MOFOs! Very Happy

Thank You!

We'd like to give our heartfelt thanks to everyone that came out to party it up with the MOFOs - the Immortal party was a big hit! Once again, we're honoured to be able to celebrate the end of the season with you and re-live all the memories of the competition, fun and accomplishments.

October 19 will go down in history as the infamous night of "glory, victory & honour" (shots) and we're thrilled to have brought together our friends from the paddling community for a night of dancing, celebration and general revelry...

Huge thanks also go out to our amazing sponsors, for the wicked prize packs we gave away:

- Goodlife Fitness
- Lululemon
- Stuart Knight Productions

MOFOs donate $1,000 to the Daily Bread Food Bank

As a result of your kind support, we were able to meet our goal of donating $1,000 to support the efforts of the Daily Bread Food Bank, as well as many boxes brimming full of non-perishable food donations. THANKS!

The Daily Bread Food Bank is dedicated to eliminating hunger in and around Toronto by feeding hungry people. It aims to put an end to the root causes of hunger through various public education programs and research. Serving over 170 food programs, Daily Bread is Canada's second largest food bank.

Thank you for your generous support and for helping us support this great cause.

Supporting the Cause

You help make a difference! Only with your on-going support will we be successful in the fight against hunger in our communities. Daily Bread Food Bank relies solely on individual, corporate and foundation support to help feed people in need, educate the public about hunger issues and address the root causes of hunger. Because of this support, the Daily Bread was able to feed almost 900,000 people last year through a network of neighbourhood food banks across the GTA, as well as store, sort and ship millions of pounds of donated food across Canada. Your support is critical in our fight to end hunger.

We were fortunate enough to send a contingent of Mofos out to the Daily Bread Food Bank yesterday to help sort through the food donations collected from local fire halls and supermarkets for Christmas. The outpour of donations over the holidays from the public is incredibly heartwarming!

If you were unable to attend our event on October 19, or would like to contribute, further information can be found here: http://dailybread.ca/get_involved/Donate-Money.cfm

Your generosity is greatly appreciated!

Thanks again everyone and we look forward to partying it up again with you soon. Happy new year!

THE ISLAND

On a group of beautiful deserted islands in the middle of nowhere, the following people are stranded:

two Italian men and one Italian woman
two French men and one French woman
two German men and one German woman
two Greek men and one Greek woman
two English men and one English woman
two Bulgarian men and one Bulgarian woman
two Japanese men and one Japanese woman
two Chinese men and one Chinese woman
two American men and one American woman
two Australian men and one Australian woman
two New Zealander men and one New Zealander woman
two Irish men and one Irish woman

One month later on these absolutely stunning deserted islands in the middle of nowhere, the following things have occurred:

One Italian man killed the other Italian man for the Italian woman

The two French men and the French woman are living happily together in a menage-a-trois.

The two German men have a strict weekly schedule of alternating visits with the German woman.

The two Greek men are sleeping with each other, and the Greek woman is cleaning and cooking for them.

The two English men are waiting for someone to introduce them to the English woman.

The two Bulgarian men took one long look at the endless ocean and another long look at the Bulgarian woman and started swimming.

The two Japanese have faxed Tokyo and are awaiting instructions.

The two Chinese men have set up a pharmacy/liquor store/restaurant/laundry, and have gotten the woman pregnant in order to supply employees for their store.

The two American men are contemplating the virtues of suicide, because the American woman keeps on complaining about her body, the true nature of feminism, how she can do everything they can do, the necessity of fulfilment, the equal division of household chores, how sand and palm trees make her look fat, how her last boyfriend respected her opinion and treated her nicer than they do, and how her relationship with her mother is improving, and how at least the taxes are low and it isn't raining.

The two Australian men beat each other senseless fighting over the Australian woman, who is checking out all the other men.

Both New Zealand men are searching the island for sheep.

The two Irish men divided the island into north and south and set up a distillery. They do not remember if sex is in the picture because it gets sort of foggy after the first few litres of coconut whiskey. But they're satisfied because at least the English aren't having any fun.

Was watching CNN and they informed about a competition for 30 second ad's about President Bush. Check it out for the top 15 finalists:

These ad's do not flatter Bush. My personal favorite is "Hood Robbin'"

M.A.S.K Cartoon on live Internet TV Sun, 07 March 2004 04:59 Go to previous message
If its 4am and you have nothing to do, you could tune in to a live broadcast of "M.A.S.K" (Mobile Armoured Strike Kommand) followed by "The Sylvanian Famalies" on the "Saudi Arabia Channel 2" internet feed.

Point your Windows Media Player to:
http://www.vtuner.com/vtunerweb/asp/StationLanuch.asp?id=126 25&link=1

And tune in around 4:10am (after the readings from the Quaran and Program Listing speech) for M.A.S.K, followed by Sylvanian Families. I believe this SHOULD work every day:) (For those of you who dont know, M.A.S.K was a very popular technology cartoon back in the 80's, and Sylvanian Families was more geared towards "My Little Pony" fans Very Happy)

PS: you can find MANY MORE live internet feeds from all over the world at http://www.vtuner.com/
Note: The show doesn't appear on the arabian weekend (Thursday and Friday).
